Evaluation of time, dose and kVp in dental diagnoses in Acaraju, SE, Brazil

The institutions must accomplish periodic quality controls in dental radiology in order to improve the image quality and security of patients and professionals. In Brazil, in the last years, have been established parameters to test the quality of diagnostic radiology equipment used in odontology and medicine, moreover the criteria that need to taken account the evaluation of conformity these machines. This work had as objective to analyse the x rays beams parameters of devices used in the dentistry in the Aracaju city, SE. To this, some institutions were visited in order to evaluate which of the requirements from Portaria No. 453 were being obeyed. The tests were performed in order to analyse the peak voltage (kVp), dose, rate dose and the time of exposition in ten different devices installed in dentist's office including the devices of the Sergipe Federal University. The measures were carried out aiming to simulate the expositions that occur in the patient skin surface during the examinations. As parameters were used the exposition times of the intraoral pre-molar regions, to male patients were used 0.7 s and female 0.6 s. The distance from equipment focus and detector device was constant and determinate by the support of film. (author)
