The combined effect of methomyl and radiation on biological aspects of the cotton leaf worm, spodoptera littoralis (boisd.)

Description

Fourth instar larvae of the cotton leaf worm, s. Littoralis were treated with LD10 of methomyl. The resulting full grown pupae were exposed to 10, 20 and 30 krad gamma radiation. The combined treatment of methomly and radiation had no deleterious effects on adult emergence, adult longevity or on mating frequency. However, a considerable reduction in both fecundity and egg hatch ability was absented when compared with the effect of radiation alone. Treating larvae with LD10 methomyl and irradiating their male pupae did not affect the percentage of mated females, while combining both treatments on females slightly decreased this percentage
