Description
Washing of hydrated metal oxide gel particles is one of the important steps of sol-gel process. This work was undertaken to obtain optimum conditions for washing of UO3 gel particles with ammonia solution. For this purpose the leaching rate of soluble constituents at infinite dilution has been determined. Nitrate ion, the slowest diffusing species among the chemicals washed out from the gel, has been determined in the wash solution and an empirical relation has been worked out to find out effective rate constant.
