Color octet J/ψ production at low pperpendicular

Description
We study contributions from color-octet quarkonium formation mechanisms to J/ψ hadroproduction at low pperpendicular. We include transitions of color-octet c bar c states into open-quote open-quote direct close-quote close-quote J/ψ and into χ1,2 which decay radiatively into a J/ψ. The leading color-singlet mechanisms analyzed in earlier work and the leading color-octet mechanisms discussed here are found to be insufficient to reproduce the pperpendicular-integrated J/ψ production data. copyright 1996 The American Physical Society
