Clinical results and complications following treatment of carcinoma of the cervix and endometrium using the Cathetron at the Middlesex Hospital. Chapter 6
Description
Follow-up results (3-38 months) are given for 66 patients with carcinoma of the cervix treated with a radical course of external radiotherapy, supplemented by Cathetron insertions. Overall, 70% are alive and disease-free. Follow-up results (6 months-3 years) are also presented for 43 patients with carcinoma of the endometrium treated pre-operatively with the Cathetron. Overall, 75% are alive and disease-free. Encouraging results have also been obtained in smaller numbers of patients with carcinoma of the endometrium treated with post-operative radiotherapy or with radiotherapy alone using the Cathetron and/or external irradiation. So far there have been almost no rectal or bladder complications associated with the use of the Cathetron. (U.K.)
