The introduction of new type steel drums in liquid radioactive waste solidification system of NPPs
Description
Cement solidification is commonly used for liquid radioactive waste treatment in operating NPPs, and most plants use CDI-type concrete container to package the resulted waste form. The volume of CDI-type container itself is, however, so large that the final waste volume and waste disposal burden are both increased. In line with the concept of waste minimization, the feasibility of using self-developed steel drum to replace CDI-type concrete container is explored, without changing the process equipment and plant structures. Verification tests show that the new type steel drum meets the performance requirements and can be workable in the existing solidification system, and the final waste volume is reduced by 43%.
