Evaluation of the performance of HEADTOME (SET-050) for single photon emission CT of brain

  • 1. Shimane Prefectural Central Hospital, Shimane (Japan)

Description

A gamma camera system for single photon emission CT (SPECT) of brain, HEADTOME SET-050 made by Shimadzu Corporation has been used in our hospital since April 1989. HEADTOME has a circular detector array which consists of 96 Nal bar crystals and 96 photomultiplier tubes. The 'TURBO-FAN collimator' is adopted in the circular detector array. This gamma camera system offers 20 slice SPECT images (5 mm thickness) with excellent spatial resolution and sensitivity, and the short scan time enables dynamic study for 133Xe and 133IMP. We evaluated the performance of this gamma camera system. Spatial resolution at the center of the field of view was 9.4 mm for high resolution (HR) mode. We concluded that advantages of this system were fast simultaneous scan available, excellent spatial resolution and system sensitivity, and wide view area of 10 cm in longitudinal direction.
