Petrography, fine stratigraphy, and petrofacies of the Stassfurt rock salt (Zechstein 2) in the Asse II salt mine region near Brunswick
Description
A petrographic analysis of the polyhalite zone pointed to polyhalite genesis from primary sedimentary gypsum by a process of pseudomorphosis. Geochemical analyses proved quantitative concentrations of accessories (polyhalite, anhydrite, kieserite, sylvine, carnallite). A regional comparison with the salinary sedimentation of Zechstein 2 in the Subhercynian Basin showed a Stassfurt-type, progressive saline sedimentation as far as the fine stratigraphy is concerned. Die petrographische Bearbeitung der Polyhalitzone ergab deutliche Hinweise auf eine pseudomorphose Entstehung von Polyhalit aus primaer sedimentarem Gips. Durch geochemische Untersuchungen wurden in den stratigraphischen Einheiten des Stassfurt-Steinsalzes (Na2) quantitativ Anteile von Akzessorien (Polyhalit, Anhydrit, Kieserit, Sylvin, Carnallit) nachgewiesen. Ein regionaler Vergleich mit der salinaren Sedimentation des Zechstein 2 im Subherzynen Becken ergab fuer die feinstratigraphische Gliederung eine progressive salinare Sedimentationsfolge vom Typ Stassfurt.
