Albumin binding of paramagnetic hepatobiliary contrast agents: enhancement of outer sphere relaxivity

Description

The present study examines the binding of several recently developed hepatobiliary MR contrast agents including iron(III) ethylenebis-(2-hydroxy-phenylglycine) (Fe(EHPG)-), 5-substituted EHPG derivatives, and iron(III) bis(2-hydroxy-benzyl)-ethylenediaminediacetate (Fe(HBED)-) to human serum albumin (HSA). Our primary purpose was to use this model system to study the effect of non-covalent protein binding on the relaxivities of these iron complexes. (author)
