Microstructural characterization and mechanical properties of steels with high manganese content (18-28% P) produced in the foundry laboratory of the Universidade Federal do Ceara, Brazil

High manganese steel has been studied as a cheaper alternative to steel alloys, due to their strength, ductility and toughness. The composition of manganese was changed to content of Hadfield steels. Steel alloys with high content of Mn and C through the casting process. The objective is to evaluate the caused by the increase of Mn and C in the molten steel. Through a study carried out in Thermo-Calc®, the molten alloys were subjected to heat treatment of solubilization at 1100 deg C, in order to maintain the austenitic microstructure. At were analyzed by optical microscopy (OM) and SEM of the alloys in the crude and solubilized. The tests of hardness and microhardness confirmed the high ductility of the alloys, as well as the variation between the alloys in the molten state and solubilized
