Description
The present invention concerns a nuclear fuel element used for a reactor core of a light water reactor and an FBR type reactor. A great amount of purified aluminum or a low melting point aluminium alloy is filled in the gap between the inner circumferential surface of a fuel can and an outer circumferential surface of fuel pellets. The aluminum material is melted in the state of use, and fills the gap between the fuel pellets and the fuel can, central holes formed at the center of the fuel pellets and cracked portions caused from the center to entire portions upon use. With such a constitution, absorbing performance for gaseous fission products is improved, as well as the performance for protecting fuel can against other fission products are improved. Further, thermal conductivity between the fuel pellets and the fuel can is improved. Accordingly, the fuel safety can be improved and the fuel working life can be extended. (I.N.)
