Nuclear power - looking ahead
Description
The concept of a civilized world society is dependent on an adequate energy supply. At the moment, we are critically dependent on fossil fuels (especially oil), the supply of which is already showing signs of constraint. It is clear that the energy mix of the next 50 years and beyond will have to be markedly different than that which characterized the last two decades. This paper examines the nuclear options and credible future developments and identifies those which are likely to form an important part of the energy mix of the future. Of the very few options available, the CANDU concept has all of the characteristics necessary to make a significant contribution
