Description
Topics included in this discussion include the skymion, two-baryon systems, strangeness in the Skyrme model, and multibaryon systems. The Skyrme model has been used to provide a novel picture of the nucleon and other low-lying baryons. The baryon number conservation is realized as the topological stability of an extended meson field configuration. This picture fits the historical and current understanding of low-energy hadron dynamics supporting chiral symmetry, the low-energy theorems, the meson-exchange potentials, and the exchange currents. 112 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab
