Description
A contribution to the zero-field splittings of Gd3+ 4f7(8Ssub(7/2)) in lanthanum ethylsulphate is calculated using a spin correlated crystal field. A particular mechanism is provided and estimated the sign and magnitude of the coupling coefficient. It is found, that the sign is positive and the contribution to the zero-field splitting is of the correct sign. (author)
