The test results of the HF power generator of a meson-factory accelerator first section
Description
The results obtained in testing a power HF generator of the first section of a meson factory accelerator (rated pulse output power 4 MW, mean power 130 kW, and pulse duration 300 μs) are presented. In order to test the HF generator at rated pulse and mean powers, the resonator has been shunted by a load equivalent with controlled coupling. The HF generator has been operated in two modes: with external excitation from a generator with adjustable frequency and with a self-oscillation with positive feedback via the resonator. Initial generator switchings have resulted in a multipactoring in the resonator with the fields being by two orders less than the rated values. Stable generator operation without breakdowns is achieved at rated and increased (up to 5 MW) pulse and average (up to 200 kW) powers. Tests have shown that the difficulties of controlling the HF channel, caused by the observed parasitic SHF self-excitation of the triode, can be overcome by using a circuit with control of the anode voltage
