Low temperature deformation of copper and an austenitic stainless steel
Description
The tensile-deformation characteristics and effect of strain rate were studied on relatively pure CDA 102 Cu and solid-solution-strengthened AISI 310. Tensile strain rate was varied between two orders of magnitude (2 X 10-3; 2 X 10-5 s-1) at temperatures ranging from 4 to 295 K. Tensile stress-strain and strain-hardening curves were determined for these temperatures. The effect of strain-rate changes on tensile flow strength was measured from strains near 0.002 (yield strength) to over 0.300. The data reflect three distinct ranges of face-centered cubic, polycrystalline plastic deformation, which have different characteristics depending on solute content
