Calculation of fast-neutron reaction cross-sections

Description

The radiative-capture and inelastic-scattering cross-sections in reactor materials of neutrons having energies between 1 keV and several mega-electron-volts are of great importance in the analysis and design of fast reactors. Recent improvements in the theoretical description of such processes and the evaluation of the necessary nuclear parameters have made it possible to obtain reliable estimates of their cross-sections. Examples of such calculations are presented. (author)

Abstract (French)

Les sections efficaces de capture radiative et de diffusion inelastique des neutrons dont l'energie varie entre 1 keV et plusieurs mega-electronvolts jouent un role tres important dans l'analyse et l'etude des reacteurs a neutrons rapides. Des ameliorations recentes dans la description theorique de ces processus et l'evaluation des parametres nucleaires necessaires ont permis d'obtenir des valeurs satisfaisantes de leurs sections efficaces. La precision de ces evaluations ressort des comparaisons entre les sections efficaces calculees et toutes les mesures recentes dont les resultats sont connus. L'auteur presente des exemples de tels calculs. (author)

Las secciones eficaces de captura radiativa y de dispersion inelastica de los materiales para reactores, a energias neutronicas comprendidas entre 1 KeV y varios megaelectron-voltios revisten considerable importancia para el analisis y diseno de reactores rapidos. Gracias a los recientes progresos en la descripcion teorica de estos procesos y en la determinacion de los parametros nucleares necesarios, es posible evaluar con cierta seguridad tales secciones eficaces. Ello puede comprobarse comparando las secciones eficaces calculadas con los resultados de mediciones recientes. El autor presenta algunos ejemplos de los mencionados calculos. (author)

Secheniya radiatsionnogo zakhvata i secheniya neuprugogo rasseyaniya nejtronov s ehnergiej ot odnogo kehv do neskol'kikh Mehv v reaktornykh materialakh imeyut bol'shoe znachenie pri analize i raschete reaktorov na bystrykh nejtronakh. Nedavnie uspekhi v teoreticheskom obosnovanii takikh protsessov i otsenka neobkhodimykh yadernykh parametrov sdelali vozmozhnym tochno otsenivat'ikh secheniya. EHto pokazyvaetsya na primere sravneniya vychislennykh sechenij so vsemi imeyushchimisya poslednimi izmereniyami. Predstavleny primery takikh vychislenij. (author)
