Moment method in charged-particle beam dynamics

Description

A system of equations for mean-square dimensions of charged particle beams in linear electromagnetic fields is derived based on the method of Dymnikov and Perelstein (Nucl. Instrum. Methods; 148:567 (1978)). The influence of space charge of the beam is taken into account. Effects connected with nonlinearity of the forces acting on the particles are also considered. (U.K.)
