A critical approach to isotope methods for measuring microbial growth in the rumen in vitro

  • 1. Ghent Rijksuniversiteit (Belgium)

Description

The use of radioactive isotopes for determining microbial growth in the rumen in vitro is critically evaluated by comparing 32P-labelled phosphate incorporation and non-protein nitrogen incorporation. It is shown that assumptions often made regarding microbial cell composition and use of the labelled precursor pool are invalid. (author)
