Synthesis of high-boron aluminium boride via borothermic reduction of alumina

Description
Interaction of aluminium oxide mixtures with boron in vacuum at various ratio within 800-1500 deg C temperature range was studied. The specimens were analyzed by means of chemical, X-ray phase, crystal-and-optical and metallographic analysis techniques. One determined the composition of the intermediate phases and of the reaction products. 60% of aluminium only was shown to form AlB18-31 boride phase crystallizing within β-boron type hexagonal structure with the parameters of the elementary cell as follows: a = 1.0970, c = 2.3780 nm. No aluminium diboride and dodecaboride were detected in the reaction products

Исследовано взаимодействие в вакууме смесей оксида алюминия с бором при различном соотношении в интервале температур 800-1500 град. С. Продукты анализировали химическим, рентгенофазовым, кристаллооптическим и металлографическим методами. Определен состав промежуточных фаз и продуктов реакции. Показано, что только 60% алюминия идет на образование боридной фазы AlB18-31, кристаллизующейся в гексагональной структуре типа β-бора с параметрами элементарной ячейки: a = 1,0970, c = 2,3780 нм. Диборид и додекаборид алюминия в продуктах реакции не обнаруженыAdditional details
