10 MeV RF Linac electron beam utilization for demonstration of radiation processing of various industrial and research applications

Description

The 10 MeV RF Linac electron beam is regularly used at Electron Beam Centre (EBC) Kharghar, BARC to demonstrate the radiation processing of different industrial and research applications. On industrial front we have demonstrated the use of 10 MeV electron beam for environment friendly waste disposal of PCB (Printed Circuit Board). The 99.9 % pure Cu foil has been extracted from the PCB by imparting 300 KGy of radiation dose. The power diode of BHEL has been irradiated by imparting a dose of 04 KGy to achieve reduction in Trr (Reverse Recovery Time) from 15 μsec to 6 μsec. The IV Sets (Syringes) of Aditi International has been irradiated by imparting a dose of 25 to 30 kGy to demonstrate medical sterilization. It has passed initial test and final acceptance test will require further test in lab as per WHO guidelines. An irradiation experiment has been conducted by RTDD, BARC at EBC to increase the tensile strength of blends of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) from 6 MPa to 7.8 MPa by imparting a dose 100 KGy.
