Nonlinear theory of the free-electron laser

Description

A theory of Raman free-electron laser using a circularly polarized electromagnetic pump is investigated. Cpupled wave equations that describe both linear and nonlinear evolution of stimulated Raman scattering are derived. The dispersion relation and the growth rate for the parametric instability are obtained. Nonlinear processes that may lead to saturation of the free-electron laser are discussed. (E.G.)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Investiga-se a teoria de Raman do laser de eletrons livres usando uma bomba eletromagnetica polarizada circular. Equacoes de onda acopladas que descrevem a evolucao linear e nao linear do espalhamento Raman estimulado sao derivadas. A relacao de dispersao e a taxa de crescimento para instabilidade parametrica sao obtidas. Processos nao lineares que podem levar a saturacao do laser de eletron-livres sao discutidos. (E.G.)
