Description
The absolute value of the total alpha decay width is computed using a new single particle basis for the diagonalization of the mean field. The saturation with respect to the increase of the number of major shells in the basis and the decrease of the expansion parameters, characterizing the quasi-continuum part of the spectrum, is obtained. The experimental data concerning the ground state to ground state alpha decay width are well reproduced for 220 Ra. (Author) 8 Figs., 23 Refs
