Modeling energy systems: the new challenges

This presentation draws on Enerdata's long-standing experience in scenarizing and modeling emission reduction strategies at national and international level. It enables us to identify and discuss the limits to which the growing ambition to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is confronting us. The question of the social analysis of changes can thus be put back into perspective as one limit among others of these exercises, limits that may have been acceptable in the past but are becoming increasingly visible in the context of reflection on carbon neutrality or 1.5 C trajectories. The text proposed here therefore allows us to take a step back, which is not intended to criticize conventional approaches, particularly modeling approaches, but to use this overview of the new limits that are appearing as scenarios seek to analyze more ambitious decarbonization trajectories and concern wider perimeters
