Annual report on radioactive discharges and monitoring of the environment 1983

BNFL's 1983 Annual Report on the radioactive discharges and on environmental monitoring for all the Company's Works and sites in presented. At no time during 1983 did the amounts of radioactive discharges of liquid and gaseous wastes through authorised and scheduled outlets at any of the Company's sites exceed those laid down in any one of the Authorisations. Environmental monitoring studies have shown that the radiation dose in 1983 to the most highly exposed group of the general population was significantly lower than the Annual Limit recommended by the ICRP, including the figures for Sellafield discharges which were 50% of that limit.
