Description

The mirror beta decays of 51Fe (Jsup(π), T = 5/2-, 1/2) and 55Ni (Nsup(π), T = 7/2-, 1/2) have been studied with the ion guide isotope separator on-line-system. The measured half-lives of 310 +- 5 ms for 51Fe and 208 +- 5 ms for 55Ni differ significantly from previously reported values. In the case of 51Fe, an allowed decay branch with a (5.0 +- 1.3)% intensity to the 7/2sup(s)tate at 237 keV in 51Mn was observed. The deduced Gamow-Teller matrix elements are compared with values calculated using the empirical (fsub(7/2))sup(n) shell model. (orig.)
