The use of ultrasonic techniques for the study of irradiation effects on Portland cement of local production
Description
The effects of fast neutron irradiation (E approx=1 MeV) on Portland cement samples using the ultrasonic techniques of Resonance Frequency and Pulse Velocity are studied. A testing program within a matricial 6 x 5 framework was developed to estimate the influence of humidity, temperature and irradiation on the samples. The sample irradiation was performed inside IEA-R1 reactor core at gama heating temperature of 1700C and instant flux of 5 x 1012n/cm2. For integrated flux phi approx.= 1017nvt, the results show no significant influence of irradiation when compared with the influence of temperature. Specific studies regarding the intrumentation, sample activation, safety devices and temperature effects on cement are presented. (Author)

Estudam-se os efeitos de irradiacao com neutrons rapidos (E approx.= 1 MeV) em amostras de cimento Portland utilizando as tecnicas ultra-sonicas de Frequencia de Resonancia e Velocidade de Pulso. Um programa de ENSAIOS sob forma de matriz 6 x 5 foi desenvolvido com objetivo de se avaliar a influencia da umidade, temperatura e irradiacao sobre as amostras. As irradiacoes foram realizadas no caroco do reator de pesquisas IEA-R1 com fluxo instantaneo da ordem de 5 x 1012 n/cm2 na temperatura de 1700C devida ao aquecimento gama. Os resultados obtidos mostram que para o fluxo integrado ao qual foram submetidas as amostras (approx.= 1017nvt), os efeitos da temperatura sao maiores que os da irradiacao. Estudos especificos quanto a aparelhagem, ativacao das amostras, dispositivos de seguranca e efeitos de temperatura no cimento sao apresentados. (Autor)Additional details
