Description
Experiments have been made with radioactive atoms implanted in matter and exposed to high electrostatic fields. The behaviour of the 14.4 keV nuclear energy level of 57Fe has been studied using Mössbauer spectroscopy. For iron atoms in aluminium oxide exposed to a field of (7.5 ± 0.8) 106 V/cm no change larger than 5 × 10-10 eV of the hyperfine pattern has been observed.
