Use of radioisotopes for diagnostic purposes in tropical regions
Description
A survey is made of radioisotope research on the basis of its contribution to tropical pathology, and more specifically in the Congo. Particular attention is paid to the advantages of photo scanning in relation to pathology of the liver (early diagnosis of hepatoma and localization of amoebic abscesses) and to haematological tests using 59Fe and 51Cr. The selection of research subjects in countries where goitre is endemic is discussed in the light of recent findings. (author)

Les investigations radioisotopiques sont passées en revue et leur apport en pathologie tropicale et, plus spécialement, congolaise est examiné. L'intérêt de la scintiphotographie en pathologie hépatique (diagnostic précoce de l'hépatome, localisation des abcès amibiens) et des épreuves utilisant le 59Fe et le 51Cr en hématologie est souligné. D'autre part, le choix des investigations dans les pays à goitre endémique est discuté à la lumière de résultats récents. (author)Additional details
