Iron coordination in silicate glasses

  • 1. Sevchenko NII PFP, Minsk (Byelorussian SSR)

Description

The luminescence characteristics of stable Fe3+ and metastable (Fe2+)+ ions in silicate glasses are reported. Infrared emission of (Fe2+)+ ions has been observed. From the luminescence data it has been concluded that Fe3+ ions are in tetrahedral coordination with respect to the oxygen ions and Fe2+ ions are in octahedral coordination. The near environment of recharged ions is not changed under irradiation. (author)
