Description
The test plant for the demonstration of the 1st uranium/plutonium separation cycle and the second cycle for plutonium purification, consisting of three pulsed screen floor columns and 2 electro-reoxidation cells was tested in 3 large campaigns with a throughput of a total of 270 kg of plutonium. There are reports on these campaigns and the working parameters examined in them. The electrolytic plutonium re-extraction in the Pu purification cycles was demonstrated with the best result and the complex processes in the pulsed column are understood. Regarding the U/Pu separation cycle, the ELKE column supplies sufficient separation factors, but the interpretation is not satisfactory yet and requires further experiments in representative conditions, for which the plant is being modified and expanded. Abstract (German)
Die im wesentlichen aus drei pulsierten Siebbodenkolonnen und 2 Elektroreoxidationszellen bestehende Testanlage zur Demonstration des 1. Uran/Plutonium-Trennzyklus und des 2. Zyklus zur Pu-Reinigung wurde in 3 grossen Kampagnen erprobt mit insgesamt 270 kg Pu-Durchsatz. Hier wird ueber diese Kampagnen und die als Schwerpunkte darin untersuchten Betriebsparameter berichtet. Die elektrolytische Pu-Rueckextraktion in den Pu-Reinigungszyklen wurde mit bestem Ergebnis demonstriert und die komplexen Vorgaenge in der Pulskolonne im wesentlichen verstanden. Bezueglich des U/Pu-Trennzyklus liefert die Kolonne ELKE ausreichende Trennfaktoren, jedoch ist die Interpretation noch nicht befriedigend und erfordert weitere Versuche unter repraesentativen Bedingungen, fuer die die Anlage modifiziert und erweitert wird.
