Use of nuclear methods for the analysis of materials and the determination of concentration profiles
Description
The possibilities of the activation analysis and nuclear reaction analysis are presented. These methods allow the oligo-elements and impurities (in trace amounts) to be determined in materials with accuracy and a high sensitivity. They can also be applied to the determination of major elements in a small amount of materials. Surface analysis and concentration profile determination are possible when the nature and energy of the incident particles are judiciously selected. Exemples of analysis of steels, pure iron and refractories are given

On decrit les possibilites de l'analyse par activation et de l'observation directe de reactions nucleaires. Ces methodes permettent notamment de realiser des analyses d'oligo-elements ou d'impuretes, meme a l'etat de traces, dans les materiaux, avec selectivite, exactitude et une grande sensibilite. Cette derniere propriete les rend aussi avantageuses pour le dosage d'elements majeurs sur de faibles quantites de matiere disponible. En outre elles se pretent a la realisation d'analyses superficielles et a la determination de gradients de concentration, moyennant le choix judicieux de la nature et de l'energie des particules incidentes.
