Applications of phase-transfer catalysis
Description
It is shown that cerium(IV) can be extracted as (NR4)2 [Ce(NO3)6] ion pairs into non-polar media. Its application is exemplified by the two-phase peroxydisulphate oxidation of polynuclear hydrocarbons in the presence of catalytic amounts of Cesup(IV) and Ag+ as oxidation mediators and N(C4H9)4 HSO4- as phase-transfer catalyst. A case of boosted reactivity is reported where a phase-transfer and a micellar catalyst are present. (author)
