The Separation Of Ce From Used Iron Oxide Based Catalyst

  • 1. Center for Research and Development of Materials Science and Technology, National Atomic Energy Agency, Serpong (Indonesia)

Description

The waste of catalyst for the production of styrene from ethyl benzene contains Fe and Ce as dominant elements. Separation method used in this investigation was oxalate precipitation. Catalyst waste was dissolved into two media, dilute and concentrate H CI solutions. Precipitation of cerium oxalate from cerium chloride solution by slow addition of 0,2 M sodium oxalate at 50oC. The obtained residue samples were decomposed at 450oC for 2 hours and calcined at 900oC for 2 hours to form its oxide. The separation product from concentrate HCl media was CeO2 ; otherwise from dilute H CI media were mixed of Ca O and CeO2
