Biological behaviour of transplanted UV-induced tumours
Description
Skin tumours were induced in inbred strain of Swiss 'bare' mice S/RV/Cri-ba, 52 weeks after the UV exposure. Mice developed squamous cell carcinoma and spindle cell sarcoma when irradiated at 15x103 KJ/m2. The transplantation of these tumours in syngeneic S/RV/Cri-ba mice was unsuccessful, but was successful when pre-irradiated with cobalt60 gamma radiation. The tumour was successfully transplanted in unirradiated syngeneic host (in subsequent passages) indicative of an altered immune mechanism, probably due to gamma irradiation. Squamous cell carcinoma was transplanted in allogeneic mice C3H Jax and C57 BL, but was rejected after the initial growth. Spindle cell sarcoma on the contrary failed to grow in allogeneic mice even when pre-irradiated at 7.6 Gy. 15 refs., 4 figures. (author)
