Atomic power stations with gas cooled fast reactors
Description
Establishment and development of a wide net of nuclear power plants with gas cooled fast reactors is reviewed. The use of different types of nuclear fuel and fuel compositions, coolants, NPP designs and safety, are considered. A considerable advantage of the gas cooled systems as compared With sodium systems is proved. The breeding ratio for helium cooled systems is approximately 1.4-1.45; doubling time - 9-12 years, while for systems with a dissociating coolant it is approximately 1.5 and 5 years, respectively. The use of gaseous coolant in systems with fast reactors gives the possibility to apply economical one and two-countour systems of converting nuclear energy into electric one, which reduces the capital costs for the NPP construction
