MD based simulations to study tilt grain boundaries in niobium

  • 1. Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee (India)

Description

Niobium is an important constituent of Zirconium niobium alloys (Zr-Nb) used in the nuclear industries for the manufacturing of pressure tubes and fuel cladding. Molecular dynamics based simulations were performed to study tilt grain boundaries in niobium. Minimum energy configuration for symmetric tilt grain boundary was estimated for Σ5 tilt grain boundary.
