The structure of the Galaxy

Description

The combination of spatial distribution, chemical abundance, kinematic, and age data for stars in the Galaxy provides important information about the early evolution of the Galaxy and its present dynamical state. Current understanding of the stellar components of the Galaxy is reviewed, indicating how the properties of these components can be analyzed to further knowledge of disk galaxies. 52 refs
