Determination of gamma (60Co) radiation fields with dosimetric films and ionization chamber

Description

The radiation fields of two 60Co sources have been determined by utilizing dosimetric films. The same study has been done with ionization chambers in air and inside a lucite phantom by varying its position every 1 cm, making its positioning in the radiation beam easier. Relative values of exposure rate have been obtained for each source at a certain source to detector distance, at the radiation beam center and in the horizontal and vertical directions in a plane perpendicular to the beam. The results have shown that the uniformity is greater than 90% for a 10 x 10 cm2 field size. These values are within acceptable limits. (Author)

Foram determinados os campos de radiacao de duas fontes de 60Co utilizando-se filmes dosimetricos. O mesmo estudo foi feito com camaras de ionizacao no ar e utilizando-se um fantoma de lucite, variando-se sua posicao de 1 em 1 cm, o que facilitou o seu posicionamento no feixe de radiacao. Foram obtidos valores relativos da taxa de exposicao para cada fonte a uma certa distancia entre fonte e detector, no centro do feixe de radiacao e nas direcoes horizontal e vertical num plano perpendicular ao feixe. Os resultados mostraram que a uniformidade e maior do que 90% para um campo de 10 x 10 cm2. Estes valores estao dentro dos limites aceitaveis. (Autor)
