Estimation of sulphur dioxide by reduction of thallium(III) held on anion exchange resin as chlorothallate

  • 1. Indian Inst. of Tech., Madras. Dept. of Chemistry

Description

2-12 ppm of sulphur dioxide in aqueous solution (acidic) may be determined by passing the solution through an anion exchange resin on which thallium-204 is held as chlorothallate. The technique was found to give a linear calibration curve with one to one reduction of thallium(III) by sulphur dioxide. The precision of a single determination was +-3%. Hydrochloric acid in the concentration range of 0.2 to 2N was found suitable for washing the column. (T.I.)
