Research On Immobilization Of Radioactive Waste Sludge From Uranium Milling Activities By Cementation

Description
In this paper, we immobilized radioactive sludge by several types of cement to find out which type is the most suitable for treating radioactive sludge come out from research laboratory. Our study will be carried out on some aspects, such as capability of immobilizing radioactive nuclei, price and availability of cement in the market. The study will also be carried out on some additives added to cementation mixture to improve its physical and chemical behavior. Each specimen is measured in leaching capability by ANSI/ANS-16.1-1986 standard and compress durability by TCVN 3118:1993 standard. The experimental results showed that Portland cement is the most suitable for solidifying radioactive sludge; additives such as bentonite and epoxy resin added will enhance both physical and chemical durability of cementation mixture.
