Tritium production in LiF thermoluminescent dosimeters

Creators

Description

LiF thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) are commonly employed in mixed neutron/γ-radiation environments utilising the high probability of the reaction 6Li(n,α)3H for thermal neutrons. Details of the theoretical and experimental determination of the amounts of tritium generated in the TLDs are given and conclusions drawn on the implications for Health Physics and the subsequent use of the dosimeters.
