The zircaloy - uranium dioxide reaction
Description
The chemical interaction between Zircaloy (fuel clad) and Uranium Dioxide (fuel pellets), a complex ternary corrosion process, is considered. Reaction kinetics, phase formation and associated melting temperatures are reviewed. The review includes liquid and solid state interactions under both isothermal and transient temperature conditions. (author)
