Fission product release into the environment during a PWR core meltdown accident

  • 1. Kernforschungszentrum, Karlsruhe, Germany

Description

A reactor pressure vessel contains not only radioactive substances, all of which will be released during a core meltdown accident, but besides water contains also various steel internal structures, control rods and, of course, fuel elements. This paper is a discussion of the fission products that could be expected to be released and transported during the meltdown of a pressurized water reactor
