Considerations in applying infrared thermometry to crop canopy temperature measurement

Description
Eighteen infrared thermometers (IRTs) were used to monitor cotton canopy temp. for an entire growing season. The IRTs were calibrated in the field on 5 dates and compared with the manufacturer's calibration. Individual periodic calibration was needed for accuracies better than 2°C. Canopy temp. measured with a hand-held IRT that scanned the canopy vs. a fixed-position IRT differed by 0.5°C
