Description

This paper describes the results of measurements for each pancake coil and whole magnet for SMES system in temperature of liquid nitrogen. The magnet consist of 7 double pancake coils made of 1610 m of high strength Bi-2223 tape (American Superconductor). The winding is epoxy impregnated and cooled with SRDK 408 cryocooler. The value of stored energy in SMES magnet indicated from measurements is 0.8 kJ for 77 K operating temperature whereas the estimated value of stored energy in winding under the 20 K operating temperature is 25 kJ. The aim of the investigation is to find optimum operating temperature regarding the value of operating current and stored energy
