Size and form of Pu2(C2O4)3·10H2O crystals depending on preparation conditions

Description

The paper presents the results of in investigation into the effect of precipitation conditions or the size and shape of Pu2(C2O4)3·10H2O crystals (concentration of plutonium and nitric acid in the initial solution, temperature and duration of precipitation, order of agent mixing, concentration of nitric and oxalic acids in the mother liquor). The addition of oxalic acid to nitric acid solutions of plutonium(3) results in the formation large-crystal precipitates of plutonium(3) oxalate which consist of separate crystals. Fine-crystal monodispersed precipitates of plutonium(3) oxalate are produced if plutonium(3) solution is added to the solution of oxalic acid. 5 refs.; 5 figs.; 2 tabs
