Description

The band crossing in the Ba region is studied in the interacting boson model 2 (IBM2) in which two neutrons and two protons are coupled to a boson core. Energy levels, E2 branching ratios and g-factors of the band-crossing states are analyzed. An interesting feature is the three-band mixing in 128 Ba, which is reasonably explained by the mixing of the pure-boson band, the boson + neutron pair band, and the boson + proton pair band. In the analysis of 132 Ba, the isomeric 10+ state is well described. The consistency of the boson-fermion interaction is systematically investigated over even-even and odd-A isotopes in the region. For example, it turns out that the same quadrupole interaction between the odd neutron hole and bosons can account for the negative-parity states in 131 Ba and the high-spin states in 132 Ba.
