Clinical significance of determination of changes of serum P-selectin, CA15-3 and TSGF levels after operation in patients with breast cancer

Objective: To explore the clinical significance of changes of serum P-Selectin, CA15-3 and TSGF levels after operation in patients with breast cancer. Methods: Serum CA15 -3 (with RIA), serum P-Selectin (with ELISA) and serum TSGF (with biochemistry) levels were measured in 38 patients with breast cancer both before and after operation as well as in 35 controls. Results: Before operation, serum P-Selectin, CA15-3 and TSGF levels were significantly higher in the patients than those in controls (P<0.01). Twenty-four of the 32 patients under gone operative therapy showed no sign of recurrence at one year after operation and their serum P-Selectin, CAl5-3 and TSGF levels dropped to within normal range, however, in the 8 patients with recurrence, the serum levels of P-Selectin CA15-3 and TSGF remained abnormally high and were significantly higher than those in the patients without recurrence (P <0.01). Conclusion: Serum P-Selectin CA15-3 and TSGF levels were closely related to the disease process of breast cancer and were of prognostic value. (authors)
