The ''World-accelerator''
Description
The basic physical principles and limitations of particle accelerators are given for both fixed and colliding target devices. The present status of the field is analyzed and it is concluded that high energy accelerators in the future can be constructed only on the basis of world-wide cooperation. The activities of the International Committee for Future Accelerators are briefly described. Possible new discoveries based on world-accelerators are predicted. The possibilities of storage rings and linear accelerators are also analyzed. The transfer radiation detector is mentioned as a possible detector of the future accelerators. The prospects of the bubble chamber as secondary particle source are described. (R.J.)
